Hoteliers & restaurants start using Foursquare.

HeaderLogoThis year, social media on all localization and relevance. Believe it or not, people are willing to share their whereabouts and their friends and family where almost instantly smart phone Android phone (nexus myself 2 weeks is not used), iPhone, BlackBerry, and other application audit that happy.

The concept is simple. Mobile device and you are located and "now from a place where you can check the" you can see the world.Generally, people are restaurants, bars, hotels, tourist attractions, but the first airport or train station in an interesting place, the less interesting places are willing to share. well you also your other friends Heathrow Terminal so why having a cup of coffee instead of boarding gate, make sure that their 5 waiting to be found, do this, you can.

Today, online services, Web-based localization with 2 regular players there: Gowalla and Foursquare. two the company almost at the same time I started around these two companies and how I created for the magazine technology would read the story of their founder Josh Williams, Dennis crouch to find ideas here if you need a wired background.

I own 2 weeks or more Foursquare nexus Android, reverse cell phone by Google, the operating system is running one of my collection since that.

And very fast applications used and "check in" now I must say that it seems natural. but my wife that I so maybe Foursquare does all definitely say keep am geek.

You-hoteliers, restaurant owners, owner-not by new social networking site, you do not pay attention (remember how we said before Twitter did not pay attention).

Reason: phenomenal growth in the last 12 months (2 million users this month) doesn't seem to slow down: compete.com, see the following in the statistics.

However, in addition, Foursquare (and perhaps Gowalla) along with your customers and greater proximity and any lead this guys they keep coming back if your property is something special to offer you this megaphone effect operator.

Also, keep in mind that the Foursquare also a little game, users continue to examine the. collect a badge, and you are often in place of the market in particular.

So a bit more what Foursquare while studying really hotels, restaurants, and Foursquare business owners who are registered, you can found. This is how it works.

Foursquare with your experience, feel free to share: I look forward to hearing your feedback, the company is still young and relatively small audience now be patient.

If a hotel in London, New York, San Francisco ... now try the same place where pretty Loco Foursquare. it is your competition does, don't wait.

Disclaimer: some of the two have happy, but you can get the company to share in the Foursquare does not work (Dennis,? you hear)

I really enjoyed this discussion and look forward to future editions with great anticipation. This is not a commercial (!) but we've recently added virtual tour and video technology to our website in addition to still shots as, like you, we believe less text, more multimedia, more interaction is the way forward. Obviously, visitors need factual data, but an honest image or video, as opposed to over-professionally enhanced ones, and honest reviews and comments, will surely tend to sway increasingly savvy spending decisions. The problem in some parts of Europe (Mallorca is one of these places) is that managers and proprietors of hospitality businesses can be rather conservative about all this "new" stuff!

Thanks for the blog and best wishes.

Hi Guillaume! Great post and it's exciting to hear that hotels are incorporating video more and more. I look forward to watching as the usage increases (and also to staying in touch!)

Regards,
Adam

@Mike - Thank you for your support. It's great to hear your experience with videos and virtual tours. I know the hospitality sector can be averse and conservative using new technology and new online tools but this blog is trying to prove the contrary with concrete examples of hotels using 21st century marketing to their own benefits

@Adam - Hi! Great to hear from you. Sorry that I didn't follow up on the offer a while ago. My head was spinning and couldn't keep up with emails. Again sorry.

Re. hotels and video. I think the hotel has to be careful - do you want them to appear too professional? I like Josiah's idea of using flip camera, make it look good, but, not staged.

Foursquare hasn't really taken off in the UK yet, but I can see potential for local businesses to use this to attract new customers and award regular's.

Hotels and video has such huge potential. I would prefer to see many short clips over the promotional montage they often do, but both is even better.

What an interesting idea, services like this are becoming more and more available.
